Brazos County is in the eastern-central part of Texas. It was officially created in 1841 and was named after the Brazos River, which flows along the county’s western edge. The name ‘Brazos’ is Spanish for ‘arms’. Early Spanish explorers called the river and its branches the ‘Arms of God’.
